Autism Speaks co-founder Suzanne Wright & Autism Speaks join forces with The Advertising Council to inform the public about the prevalence and severity of autism. Since the production of this piece, the instances of children diagnosed with autism has risen from 1 in 166 to 1 in 150.

Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States.* Fifteen years ago, only 1 in 10000 children was diagnosed with autism. Today, that rate has soared to 1 in 110. Despite this prevalence, research shows that many parents of young children are generally unaware of autism. This campaign seeks to educate parents about the growing rate of autism in this country and to ultimately increase the level of early detection. Because there is currently no cure for autism and no effective means to prevent it, early detection is the crucial first step in helping children with autism. With appropriate early-intervention services, from ages 3-5, between 20% and 50% of children diagnosed with autism will be able to attend mainstream kindergarten. All of the PSAs communicate the startling statistic that 1 in 110 children are diagnosed with some form of autism. The PSAs also encourage parents of young children to visit www.AutismSpeaks.org to learn the signs of the disorder.

Athletes Against Autism Golf Tournament With over 30 athletes and celebrities in attendance, this year's 3rd Annual Athletes Against Autism Golf Tournament, presented by Cadillac, raised over $290000 in support of Autism Speaks. Sunday evening, Bacara Resort & Spa welcomed over 150 guests to a cocktail hour, silent auction, dinner program and live auction hosted by actress Melissa Fitzgerald featuring world famous auctioneer and former Houston Rocket Robert Reid. On Monday, Sandpiper Golf Club hosted the golf tournament, which included a pre-event yoga class, hole-in-one contest for a Cadillac Escalade, contests for Closest to the Pin, Accurate and Longest Drives, followed by a BBQ Dinner & Awards Reception. AAA co-founders Olie Kolzig and Byron Dafoe were on hand to support the event and were joined by AAA member athletes and celebrities including Ryan Nece, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Travis Hall, former NFL defensive lineman, Sinjin Smith, AVP Volleyball star, Don Ford, former LA Lakers star, Jim Gott, former Dodger pitcher, Dain Blanton, US Olympic Volleyball team, Scott Erickson and Greg Swindell, both former MLB pitchers, Campy Russell, former NBA player, and Brent Johnson, Washington Capitals, among many others.
