Tiger Woods Wednesday tried to escape his scandalous sand trap by publicly apologizing for his "transgressions" - even as he was linked to a third reported mistress. The remarkable mea culpa came as Woods' wife maintained her silence - shedding no light on whether she would stick by her husband after the apparent betrayal. "I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart," Woods wrote on his Web site. "I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves." Woods did not spell out why he was saying sorry in his "profound apology," but the duffer whose name is synonymous with excellence on the grass admitted he was "far short of perfect" off the links. "I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family," he wrote in a plea for privacy. "Those feelings should be shared by us alone." Woods did rise to the defense of his wife of five years, Elin Nordegren, calling reports of domestic violence "utterly false and malicious." "Elin has always done more to support our family and shown more grace than anyone could possibly expect," he wrote. The world's best golfer said he would "strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves." "For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology," he wrote. The man who introduced the couple to each other eight years ago, pro golfer Jesper Parnevik, said Wednesday he owed an apology to his fellow Swede and former nanny. "I really feel sorry for Elin since me and my wife were at fault for hooking her up with him," Parnevik, 44, told the Golf Channel. Woods' mea culpa came after he was linked to Kalika Moquin, the marketing manager for a Sin City nightclub, in the pages of Life & Style magazine. He also has been tied to cocktail waitress Jaimee Grubbs and New York party promoter Rachel Uchitel. Grubbs, 24, not only admitted to an affair, she also provided Us Weekly with photos and hundreds of "racy" text messages to prove it. Uchitel, 34, said it was a coincidence that she and Woods were in Australia at the same time last month - at the same hotel. RadarOnline.com, however, reported Wednesday that Woods' organization paid for Uchitel's plane tickets. Uchitel, who has adamantly denied sleeping with Woods, is expected to change her tune today. She will fess up to her affair with Woods during a news conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred, in Los Angeles, the National Enquirer and RadarOnline reported. The details could be explosive. Uchitel, TMZ reported, sparked the argument last week when Nordegren caught Woods texting Uchitel an hour before the crash. Nordegren confronted Woods about whom he was texting, grabbed the phone and tried to call Uchitel. Woods and his wife argued and the phone broke, TMZ reported. Moquin did not kiss and tell about Woods. "I'm just choosing to focus on my job," she said when Life & Style asked her about Woods. An "insider" told the magazine that Woods and Moquin hooked up "a bunch of times" in Las Vegas during the weekend of Oct. 23. "Tiger told Kalika that married life isn't all it's built up to be," the source said. Grubbs told Us Weekly that Woods gave her the same sad story. She said their affair began in April 2007 and that Woods told her to keep quiet shortly before the National Enquirer broke the story about Uchitel last week.
