Irons have the widest range of use of any set of clubs. An iron is the most versatile club in your bag. And you cant get close to the hole without one. Yet the average golfer never takes the time to improve his iron play. Thats why hes average. Go to any driving range and youll see what Im talking about: Guys trying to knock the ball into the next county with drivers that look like upside down mailboxes. Because the three things most golfers care about these days are distance...distance...and more distance. But what good is being able to belt the ball 300 yards if it takes you three more shots to hit the green? Having a decent drive is important, of course. But youve got to be able to follow up your drives with solid iron play. That is, if you want to be able to hit your approaches shots a whole lot closer to the pin.
